Deanna Kay (Moorman) Atkins went to be with the Lord on the evening of Wednesday November 14, 2012 at the age of 57. Her ten year battle with cancer culminated with the presence of her family at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
Deanna was born May 31, 1955 to Max and Jackie (Wright) Moorman at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Indiana.
Deanna attended Eastbrook Schools where she was a member of the band and the cheerleading squad. She was an active participant in 4-H, which was a legacy that she would pass on to her children. When she graduated from Eastbrook, she attended Ball State University to major in education and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She then went back to the Eastbrook community to teach business for thirty-one years. While there, she was dedicated to her students and began Eastbrook’s first chapter of DECA. Deanna retired from Eastbrook Community Schools in July of 2010.
Deanna resided in rural Fairmount with her high school sweetheart Randy Atkins. Randy and Deanna wed on June 4, 1977 and were blissfully married for thirty-five years. They had two children. Randy and Deanna ran a successful farming business. She was a lover of sewing, gardening, crafts, organic foods, and reading devotional books. Deanna was strong in her Christian faith and loyal to serving God and her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and compassionate grandmother. She attended Grace Community Church, Marion and Epworth United Methodist Church, Matthews.
Deanna is survived by her husband; children, Amber (Brad) Dillon of Jonesboro and Bradley (Brittany) Atkins of Upland, grandchildren, Allison and Kaden Dillon; mother, Jackie Moorman of Fairmount; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Betty Ann Atkins, Upland; a brother, Terry (Bonnie) Moorman of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Cheryl (Garry) Bole of Indianapolis.
Deanna was preceded in death by her father, Max Moorman.
